Editing Surgeon Preferences

In the Preference Card module, you can specify the environment and preferences the surgeon requests when performing services in a facility using the Surgeon's Preference dialogSurgeon's Preference dialog. This dialog is linked to all cards created for a surgeon.

Accessing the Surgeon's Preference dialog

• If you selected Build Card by Surgeon when creating a new preference card, the dialog launches after you select the surgeon's name.  If the selected surgeon does not yet have a Preference Page created, the fields will be blank, allowing you to enter preferences for this surgeon. If there is already a Preferences card, the preferences on file will pull to this screen, and you can accept existing preference information or change it.
• The Surgeon’s Preferences dialog can also be accessed directly once the initial information has been entered from the Surgeon Preferences Sheet BarSurgeon Preferences Sheet Bar option. A surgeon will only show on this list if he or she has at least 1 preference card. Select a surgeon's name to launch the dialog.

  

To update a surgeon's preferences

1. Enter or change the information on the fields on the Surgeons Preference dialog as needed. Click the links for more information on each field:

Preferences:

1. • Phone Interruptions?Phone Interruptions?

     If the surgeon wants to be interrupted with phone calls, select Yes check box. Leave the field blank to indicate interruptions are not allowed. This field is not mandatory.

   • ExceptionsExceptions

     If the surgeon does not want to be interrupted during surgery with phone calls as a general rule, but does want to be notified if a specific person or department is calling, leave the Phone Interruptions box blank and indicate what the exception would be in this field (example: Pathology Lab, Wife, Office Manager).

   • Glove SizeGlove Size

     Enter the physician glove size (example: 7-1/2). This field is not mandatory.

   • MusicMusic

     Enter the radio station or music preference the physician likes played in the operating room. Leave the field blank if he or she does not want music. You can also enter text to indicate the surgeon will bring his or her own music. (example: 92.5 or Dr. will bring CD). This field is not mandatory.

   • Room TempRoom Temp

     Enter the temperature the surgeon prefers for the room. This field is not mandatory.

   • Preferred LabPreferred Lab

     Select the surgeon’s lab of preference or use the check to jump to the Organization dictionary to search or add a new item. Only items that have been identified as Outside Labs in the Third Party Organization dictionary will display in the drop down selection window. This field is not mandatory.

Requested Staff:

1. • AnesthesiologistAnesthesiologist

     Select the Anesthesiologist with whom the surgeon prefers to work. The Anesthesiologist specified in the Surgeon’s preferences will not automatically populate when the appointment is scheduled. This field is not mandatory.

     1. • Use the check mark to search or jump to the Physician Dictionary.

        • Only those persons identified as active Providers with a specialty of Anesthesiologist will display in this drop down. Specialty is assigned in the Physician Dictionary.

      

   • CRNACRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist)

     Select the CRNA that the surgeon prefers to work with. The CRNA specified in the Surgeon’s preferences will not automatically populate when the appointment is scheduled.

     1. • Use the check mark to search or jump to the Physician Dictionary.

        • Only those persons identified as active Physicians with a specialty of CRNA will display in this drop down. Specialty is assigned in the Physician Dictionary.

      

   • Scrub NurseScrub Nurse

     Select the Scrub Nurse that the surgeon prefers to work with.

     1. • If your organization does not allow surgeons to request staff, leave this field blank.

        • Use the check mark to search or jump to the Staff Dictionary.

      

   • Circulating NurseCirculating Nurse

     Select the Circulating Nurse that the surgeon prefers to work with.

     1. • If your organization does not allow surgeons to request staff, leave this field blank.

        • Use the check mark to search or jump to the Staff Dictionary.

      

   • CommentsComments

     Free text area for the user to add any information that is specific to the surgeon. The size of this free text area is unlimited. Any information entered here appears on the Preference Card.

2. Click Back to return to the Select Types screen, Next to advance to the Card Details screen, Save to save the surgeon's preferences, or Cancel to discard your changes.
