Creating Assignment Rules

1. Click to create the first assignment rule.
2. Highlight the rule and click to open the Rule Editor.
3. Select Rule Kind from the drop down menu and define the parameters for the rule in the Rule Editor. These are the available Rule Kinds:

• • Insurance has RCM Option assigned: (Select this option if you want to assign collectors by Insurance Carrier.) Click herehere to learn where to assign a specific collector.

    Set the collector assignment in the Insurance Carrier Dictionary in the Administration module under RCM Options.

  • Patient has RCM Option assigned: (Select this option if you wish to assign collectors to specific patients.) Click herehere to learn where to assign a specific collector.

    Set the collector assignment at the Patient Account level. From the Patient Ledger, select General > Account Maintenance from the Sheet Bar.

  • Provider has RCM Option assigned: (Select this option if you want to assign collectors by provider.) Click herehere to learn where to assign a specific collector.

    Set the collector assignment in the Physician Dictionary in the Administration module under RCM Options.

  • Rule with conditions: When you select this type of rule, you can quickly define a group of accounts and assign a collector to them. You can use the conditions available with this options to define the following types of account groups:
  • • Accounts with one or more specific carriers as the responsible party for amounts due
    • Account groups based on where the patients' last names fall alphabetically (e.g. all patients whose last names fall between A and D)
    • Account groups comprised of  one or more specific patients
    • Accounts grouped by physician (rendering provider)
    • Accounts grouped by which guarantor is responsible for the charges (primary or secondary)
    • All self pay accounts, or specific self pay accounts

  4. Name: Enter a descriptive name for the rule in this field.
  5. Select one of the following options to specify when the system should assign the collector:

     • Run at creation: Set the collect at the time the charge is posted to the patient's account. Set the number of days between the date the charge is posted and the RCM Follow-up Date. (e.g. To set the RCM Follow-up Date at 45 days after the charge is posted, enter 45 in this field.)

     • Run at transfer: Set the collector when the responsibility for payment is transferred to the next responsible party. Set the number of days between the date the charge is transferred and the RCM Follow-up Date. (e.g. To set the RCM Follow-up Date at 45 days after the charge is transferred, enter 45 in this field.)

  6. Click OK to save your new rule and return to the RCM Configuration Page.
