Dunning Message Rule Example: Insurance Carrier-Specific Message

The following is an example of how to set up a Dunning Rule that is Insurance Carrier specific. We're applying the dunning message to accounts with Medicare as their Primary Insurance in the Billing Group associated to the most recent charges. We will specify that the Minimum Bucket Balance must be $25.00 and that no dunning message should be applied if a payment of at least $25.00 was paid by the guarantor in the last 25 days.

To create an insurance-specific Dunning Rule

  1. Click add a new rules line and select the criteria to build your Dunning Rule:

  2. Insurance Carrier: Select Medicare from the drop down menu and the default set to Selected.

    • Use right click > Clear to remove an item added in error

  3. Insurance Plan Type: Do not make a selection here. Leave the default set to Selected.

  4. Insurance Classification: Do not make a selection here. Leave the default set to Selected.

  5. Patient Classification: Do not make a selection here. Leave the default set to Selected.

  6. Patient Status: Do not make a selection here. Leave the default set to Selected.

  7. Minimum Bucket Balance: Enter a dollar value or leave blank. For our example we will specify that the bucket balance must be at least $25.00 for the aging specific message to be assigned.

  8. No dunning if ___ was paid by guarantor in the last ___ days: Enter an amount and days or leave blank. If you enter a value in one of the fields the other will become mandatory. For our example we will use $25.00 / 25.

  9. Messages: Enter an appropriate message for each of the buckets you would like applied to this Dunning Rule. For our example we will enter 30, 60, 90 and 120 day messages.

    • The system will auto wrap the text so it is properly formatted on the statement. Entering carriage returns could cause the message to be incorrectly displayed on the statement.

  10. Save: Click Save to create the new Dunning Rule.
