ERA Posting - Interest Payments v. 3.19

ERA files may include transaction information on interest paid due to delays in processing of the claim. These transactions are usually associated to the claim rather than to a specific charge on the claim.

Interest charges will be read in the file when there is an AMT loop and segment 01 includes I. The amount of the interest will be read from segment 02. Interest may also be included in the file in the CAS loop, segment 02 with code 225.

When interest is included in the file the system will present the transaction on the Advice-Preview screen with a Process status of Post. The user may choose to modify the setting to Reject.

Business Rules for Interest:

Default Journal Code for Interest Payment is required on the Setup Posting Parameter screen
Default Journal Code for Interest Debit is required on the Setup Posting Parameter screen
Interest payments will default on the Advice-Preview screen as Payment
The system will automatically create an offsetting debit transaction for the same amount as the payment.
If either the interest payment or debit are set to Reject the opposite transaction will also be set to Reject.
Interest payments/debit will always be applied to the first charge in the ERA file for the associated patient.
