Implementing the Code Updater Tool

This topic provides instructions for implementing the AmkaiOffice Code Updater Tool, available in AmkaiOffice versions 4.1 and later. This topic is intended for the Systems Administrator, Business Office Manager or other personnel responsible for maintaining the dictionaries associated with these codes within your facility's AmkaiOffice database.

The Code Updater Tool enables clients to perform updates to the following code sets within AmkaiOffice:

Permissions and Licensing

The AmkaiOffice Code Updater Tool and access to code sets require a subscription license from SIS. To obtain that license, please contact your Sales Executive or SIS Support.

Users responsible for updating code sets should have the appropriate role and access for using the Code Updater Tool set in the AmkaiOffice System Administration module. Users should have access to AmkaiCentral. If you are not registered for AmkaiCentral, contact the SIS Support Team to obtain login credentials.

Accessing the Code Updater Files

You can download the latest Code Updater Files from AmkaiCentral. The files are posted under the Documentation link. Code Updater Files are released by SIS a minimum of two times a year, coinciding with the release of ICD, CPT/HCPCS, and DRG code updates.

Implications for Business Groups

The Code Updater Tool must be run once per Business Group in an AmkaiOffice database to ensure that all Business Entities under those Business Groups receive the updates to the Procedure and Diagnosis codes.

Options selected when running the update will impact all Business Entities under the Business Group, so any decisions to be made regarding the updates should include all Business Entities.

Timing the Code Set Updates

The Code Updater Tool will apply the selected Code Set as of the date it is run. It is important to run the Code Updater as close as possible to the date upon which your facility will need to start using that Code Set to prevent early inactivation of Codes still in effect or activation of Codes that may not yet be effective.

The Diagnosis and Procedure dictionary entries may be activated again if needed, however ICD-10 Diagnosis and CPT dictionary entries are not user-editable. Users may activate Diagnosis and Procedure dictionary entries to use for billing if needed.
